Introduction

On forest paths and inner city streets of Vancouver, British Columbia, the cast and crew of The Birdwatcher gathered together to bring this powerful story of loss, love, family and forgiveness to life.

Filmed in just three short weeks in the spring of 2014, the low-budget production moved from the gritty streets of Vancouver’s downtown eastside to a rainforest nestled within the North Shore mountains. The hardy crew worked through torrential rains, which often forced the production indoors. Through sunny days and under cloudy skies, they took our characters from their first moments to the final, moving resolution.

The film features a stellar cast, including Camille Sullivan, Gabrielle Rose, Matreya Fedor, Jakob Davies and Garwin Sanford. It was directed by Siobhan Devine, written by Roslyn Muir and produced by Siobhan Devine, Ines Eisses, Roslyn Muir & Alexandra Raffe. Editor, Daria Ellerman, and composer, Jennifer Roworth, joined cinematographer, Peter Woeste, on the creative side, with casting by Maureen Webb.

The Birdwatcher was made with the participation of TELEFILM CANADA and the Women in the Director's Chair Feature Film Award.
